The Successful Applicant
In order to qualify you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions Professional and Scientific Position to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS0185 Social Work Series. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Must have a masters degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS11 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes providing evidencebased psychotherapy for a wide variety of complex psychiatric/social problems Determining appropriate treatment modalities and interventions for mental health disorders and other emotional and behavioral conditions. Appling multiple therapeutic techniques to include individual group couples family supportive crisis intervention and behavioral therapies or other recognized treatment strategies based upon accepted theories principles and practices of clinical social work. Preparing written evaluation reports with clinical impressions and recommendations. Accomplishing clinical intake interviews with patients. FEDERAL TIMEINGRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable timein173grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS11 level is required to meet the timeingrade requirements for the GS12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet timeingrade requirements. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge skills abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of professional social work practices principles theories and administrative requirements to be able to apply them in clinical and operational unit settings.2. Knowledge of professional evidencebased treatments for a full range of psychiatric disorders to plan and provide treatment to patients.3. Knowledge of administration scoring and interpretation of select psychological and psychosocial measures to properly assess patients and familys needs. Sophisticated understanding of behavioral risk management and ability to engage appropriate protections as needed when risk of harm to the patient or others is present.4. Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders to evaluate psychiatric disorders and apply professional diagnostic skills.5. Skill in oral and written communication to include maintaining proper documentation of patient treatment and follow up.6. Ability to provide guidance and consultation services to medical professionals and military leaders work well with others in a team approach and facilitate referrals to community or statebased human service agencies as needed e.g. to Protective Services or financial aid organizations. PARTTIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or parttime work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Conditions of Employment Continued: Selective Placement Factors: Must have the following minimum qualifications IAW DOD directive:(a) Possess a current unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50states the District of Columbia Puerto Rico or the U.S Virgin Islands.(b) Practice will require clinical privileges at the host MTF. MUST maintain active clinical privileges for theduration of employment. Must sustain current competency to practice at the independent level.(c) Must have practiced as an independent licensed clinical social worker within past two years.(d) As a condition of employment government civilian providers must meet all applicable credentialingrequirements IAW local military treatment facility guidelines and be fully qualified to perform within the scope oftheir practice.(e) Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. This position has been identified as having regular contact with children. IAW Public Law 101647 Section231 and Public Law 102190 Section 1094. A FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR)Check will be completed on any person selected for this position. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air ForceCivilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegaldrug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force national securityand public safety.
