The Successful Applicant

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Masters degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for masters degree in social work. Licensure: Candidate must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements applicants must have one year of experience equivalent to the GS11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. In addition to the experience above candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation negotiation and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work setting priorities meeting multiple deadlines and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training orientation and guidance within clinical practice. Preferred Experience: Formal training in dementia care best practices (e.g. caregiver interventions behavior management) with continuing education in geriatrics neurocognitive disorders or caregiver support. Leadership in program design and refinement (workflows consult pathways eligibility/triage) including developing standardized documentation templates and patient education materials. Demonstrated ability to track and improve quality metrics (e.g. caregiver distress ED/hospital utilization timeliness of access advance directives completion appointment adherence) using data to drive PDSA cycles and report outcomes to service leadership. Experience delivering staff training (nurses social workers providers) on dementia communication techniques safety planning resources and caregiver support comfortable presenting at huddles in services and safety forums. Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary but also demands standing walking bending twisting and carrying light items.
