The Successful Applicant

To qualify for this position your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the masters degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Masters degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a masters degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS9. Selective Placement Factor: Must have a current unrestricted license U.S. State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW) or a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) In addition to the Basic Requirements you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS9: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters degree or masters or equivalent graduate degree 1 year equivalent to at least GS7 GS11: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree 1 year equivalent to at least GS9 Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks NOTE: Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. Combining Education and Experience: When combining education with experience first determine the applicants total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level then determine the applicants experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level finally add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. For example an applicant for a GS184 Sociology position has successfully completed 60 undergraduate semester hours including 24 semester hours in sociology and in addition has 2 fulltime years of appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant possesses the necessary analytical and communication skills. The applicant would qualify for GS5 since the 60 semester hours (the equivalent of 2 years of undergraduate education or 50 percent of the total requirement) were supplemented by 2 additional years of appropriate experience that provided the remaining 50 percent of the total required education and experience. Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Superior Academic Achievement: The superior academic achievement provision is applicable to all occupations covered by this standard. Graduate Education: Completion of graduate level education in the amounts shown in the table in addition to meeting the basic requirements is qualifying for positions at grades GS7 through GS11 and GS12 research positions if it provided the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to do the work. One year of fulltime graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of fulltime study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school 18 semester hours should be considered an academic year of graduate study. Parttime graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of fulltime study at the school attended. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the TimeInGrade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. TimeInGrade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
